A manhunt is on for ten men reportedly associated with an Arima gang following a physical assault on a family last Saturday night at Piarco.Five other suspects who were allegedly involved in the fracas appeared before an Arima magistrate yesterday charged with using obscene language, threatening an officer, disorderly conduct, assault by beating and other offences.A police report said 15 men were outside a shop at south Piarco around 10.20 pm when they got into an altercation with other patrons who were awaiting delivery of food.
During the row, the gang of men turned on a man identified as Feliz Shorab of Bamboo Settlement, who police said was also awaiting service.His sister, Felicia Shorab, intervened and was also badly beaten by members of the gang.Two of their cousins, Daniel Armogan and Shaziz Mohammed were then assaulted, a report said.Felicia made it to her motor car but was followed by the gang who threw bottles and stones at the vehicle.The family made it to the station and lodged a report.
They were taken to the Arima Health Facility for medical attention.While the victims were at hospital some of the suspects, police said, went to the Piarco Police Post and made a different report claiming they had been robbed.Investigating officers said members of the gang cursed and threatened police officers who were in the charge room. The men were taken into custody.Detectives said the US Embassy will be advised as one of the suspects is an American citizen.PC Christien Delando is continuing investigations.
