Open let­ter to Sgt Anand Rame­sar, pres­i­dent of the Po­lice Ser­vice So­cial and Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion: Now you know what it feels like for cit­i­zens to have their doors knocked off their hinges at all hours of the morn­ing, while they are asleep, by ma­raud­ing po­lice of­fi­cers, of­ten times for no good rea­son. My ear­li­est school teach­ers and my par­ents al­ways taught me that what you do not like for your­self, do not do to oth­er peo­ple, which I sub­se­quent­ly learnt was a lo­calised ver­sion of The Gold­en Rule.

Are you say­ing that po­lice of­fi­cers should be treat­ed dif­fer­ent­ly sim­ply be­cause they are po­lice of­fi­cers, even if they are charged with mul­ti­ple mur­ders? That could be one of the rea­sons that the Po­lice Ser­vice is in the con­di­tion that it is to­day and why or­di­nary cit­i­zens don't trust po­lice of­fi­cers-and nev­er will.
