Act­ing Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent of North­ern Di­vi­sion, David Abra­ham, says there has been a de­crease in crime in the di­vi­sion. He said so yes­ter­day as po­lice of­fi­cers as­signed to the di­vi­sion launched a new Christ­mas an­ti-crime plan at the Curepe Junc­tion. Scores of of­fi­cers formed a pa­rade along the East­ern Main Road, Curepe.

A mo­bile booth was al­so placed in the area. Abra­ham said: "We had an in­crease but I am not go­ing to give fig­ures. We have an ob­jec­tive to make the ar­eas safe and have the com­mu­ni­ties un­der con­trol through­out the Christ­mas sea­son." He said mo­bile po­lice booths were al­so placed in Ari­ma and San Raphael and all the of­fi­cers would be utilised to ca­pac­i­ty.

Abra­ham said the di­vi­sion was im­por­tant be­cause of ma­jor shop­ping ar­eas such as Trinci­ty Mall, Grand Bazaar, Val­park and the Pi­ar­co In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port. "We want to make these places safe for shop­pers and for mem­bers of the pub­lic to be se­cure and feel free," he said. "At the air­port dur­ing the sea­son we would like the pas­sen­gers who are ar­riv­ing and de­part­ing to have the sup­port of the of­fi­cers." Abra­ham praised mem­bers of his staff for their ded­i­cat­ed work.
