Acting Senior Superintendent of Northern Division, David Abraham, says there has been a decrease in crime in the division. He said so yesterday as police officers assigned to the division launched a new Christmas anti-crime plan at the Curepe Junction. Scores of officers formed a parade along the Eastern Main Road, Curepe.
A mobile booth was also placed in the area. Abraham said: "We had an increase but I am not going to give figures. We have an objective to make the areas safe and have the communities under control throughout the Christmas season." He said mobile police booths were also placed in Arima and San Raphael and all the officers would be utilised to capacity.
Abraham said the division was important because of major shopping areas such as Trincity Mall, Grand Bazaar, Valpark and the Piarco International Airport. "We want to make these places safe for shoppers and for members of the public to be secure and feel free," he said. "At the airport during the season we would like the passengers who are arriving and departing to have the support of the officers." Abraham praised members of his staff for their dedicated work.
