Threats have been made to the State's main witness in the case against Police Constable Curt Teesdale who is accused of transferring a police issued firearm and ammunition to a man. Acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan, presiding in the San Fernando First Court, heard this from State prosecutor Trevor Jones when Teesdale reappeared in court. Teesdale, of St Mary's Village, Moruga, is facing three charges arising out of an alleged incident in which he allegedly transferred his firearm and ammunition to a man in 2009. Jones said the threats had been reported at the Fyzabad Police Station. He said the police complainant was not present to shed more light on the allegations which would be investigated.
Defence lawyer, Richard Valere, objected to the allegation as he questioned the appearance of the witness in court yesterday. Valere said if the matter was proceeding by way of paper committal "why is the witness present." "If he does not come, there will not be any opportunity for my client to be accused of interfering with the witness," said Valere. However, Rambachan said: "If he is the primary witness, wouldn't you want to have him here?." The matter was adjourned to December 12 to start. Teesdale, who was last assigned to Mon Repos Police Station and has 25 years service, is out on $125,000 bail. The charges against the officer stemmed from an alleged incident on July 3, 2009, at Harris Promenade, San Fernando.
