Six Sangre Grande residents yesterday were fined $20,000 in fines for drunken driving.The drivers-Kishore Khelawan, his cousin, Ricky Khelawan, Junior Adams, Joel Joseph, Sheldon Moreno and John Saroopsingh-pleaded guilty when they appeared before Magistrate Aden Stroude in the Sangre Grande Magistrates' Court charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol.
The men received fines, ranging between $1,000 to $5,000.They were arrested last Friday night in the Sangre Grande district during a road exercise, which was headed by ASP Neville Sankar, of the Sangre Grande CID.In a telephone interview yesterday, Sankar said such exercises would continue in the coming weeks, especially during the Christmas season.
He also warned motorists to refrain from drinking while driving when visiting relatives and going to parties during the season.The exercise was led by Sgt Ken Lutchman and included Cpl Randy Banwarie and PC Kishan Sankar. (DA)
