Director of the Public Affairs Unit of the Police Service, Sharon Lee Assang, said Police Commissioner, Dwayne Gibbs, is committed to having a thorough investigation into the accident which claimed the life of 70-year-old pensioner Joan Webb.She was speaking at yesterday's daily news conference at the Police Administration Building, Port-of-Spain.
Webb, of Viceroy Crescent, Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, died on Tuesday afternoon after the car in which she was travelling collided with a police vehicle at Bon Air Gardens and the Priority Bus Route.She was due to celebrate her 71st birthday on Wednesday."The commissioner gives his commitment to have transparency," Lee Assang said.
She urged eyewitnesses to come forward and provide details of the accident, "to put things together," she added.Lee Assang said the investigator, a senior officer "was attempting to put a picture together of the accident and he was in the process of taking statements."On Wednesday, Lee Assang said counselling was being provided to Webb's family who was traumatised after the accident.
However, in an interview, Monica Webb James, the victim's daughter, said they did not receive any counselling from anyone."This is not so. We received a call from the Victim Support Services but have not seen or heard anybody and we did not receive counselling. We have to come together as a family and pay which we intend to do and be reimbursed," James added.
She said after the accident they were visited by one officer from the Arouca Police Station.At the conference yesterday, TTPS' public information officer, Sgt Wayne Mystar, said the family was contacted but so far did not receive counselling.
