Christmas came early for 53-year-old Wayne Marshall who suffers from osteo-arthritis. Unable to move around his one-room home on Richardson Lane, Laventille, Marshall was relieved when Cepep workers began assisting him. Once known as the "souse man," that income is no more because of his illness. However, Marshall smiled on Friday and said that God was still good regardless of his circumstance. The workers from the East Dry River Development Company Ltd, which is employed by the Cepep Company Ltd, have been cutting the tall grass around his home which caused centipedes to crawl into the small room. The area had become an eyesore for the residents for quite some time, as Marshall was unable to have it maintained.
In their spare time, some of the female workers have even taken up cooking and cleaning for Marshall for the last month and a half. They even bought him Christmas lights and they are hoping that someone will donate crutches to him. What could have been a tear-filled story has been turned into a ray of hope because of the Cepep workers, who, while enhancing the environment, truly represent a community-driven spirit, which is one of the company's core values. Marshall called these female workers "Sisters in Arms" as he said they were doing something extraordinary.
