DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Veteran West Indies left-hander Shiv Chanderpaul has risen just one place to sixth in the latest ICC batting rankings, despite stroking a century against India in the first Test in Delhi last week.The 38-year-old Chanderpaul lashed 118, his 24th Test hundred, to give West Indies the early advantage. He also top scored with 47 in the second innings but West Indies still lost by five wickets.
Chanderpaul is behind fifth placed Sachin Tendulkar who remained unmoved despite his 76 in India's second innings.Sri Lankan stroke-maker Kumar Sangakkara has taken over top spot in the batting, replacing South African Jacques Kallis.Stylish West Indies left-hander Darren Bravo and dogged right-hander Kirk Edwards have both moved one place up to 42nd and 51st respectively.
In the bowling, speedster Fidel Edwards is the highest ranked West Indies player, remaining unmoved at 20th.Captain and medium pacer Darren Sammy, meanwhile, fell two places to 24th, while leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo and pacer Kemar Roach remained stuck at 38th and 39th respectively. (CMC)
