A po­lice ex­er­cise in Laven­tille on Fri­day night has led to the ar­rest of two peo­ple-one a teenag­er-and the seizure of a home-made shot­gun. A re­port stat­ed that around 9 pm, of­fi­cers of the Port-of-Spain Di­vi­sion Task Force led by Sgts Knott and Bruno were on mo­bile pa­trol in the St Barb's, Laven­tille area when they no­ticed the men walk­ing quick­ly and act­ing sus­pi­cious­ly. Dur­ing a search of the men the of­fi­cers said they dis­cov­ered a firearm and six 12-gauge shot­gun car­tridges.

The men were ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion were they are be­ing ques­tioned in con­nec­tion with var­i­ous crim­i­nal of­fens­es that have oc­curred in the Laven­tille area in the past weeks. The men-18 and 26-are ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore a Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trate to­mor­row. The il­le­gal firearm was tak­en to the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, St James for bal­lis­tic analy­sis.
