Trade Minister Stephen Cadiz has denied Selwyn "Robocop" Alexis assisted him in the 2010 election campaign.Alexis is one of the detainees held under the Emergency Powers Regulations.Cadiz is demanding an apology from Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley, who recently made the claim.Speaking on the CNC3 morning programme yesterday, Cadiz, also the Member of Parliament for Chaguanas East, said Rowley's claims were untrue.
He added: "He has to apologise to me. He has to apologise to the 10,797 people who voted for me, who voted for the Prime Minister and the People's Partnership."I want to state in no uncertain terms "Robocop", by whatever name he goes by, was not, was never and will never be part of any campaign or any event or anything in which I am involved."Cadiz accused Rowley of trivialising the issue.
He said: "For him to be making these statements, where he is talking about an assassination plot, a very serious issue, which he and the PNM are making light of, this assassination plot against the PM, he is the one trivialising it. "Where he is using that same conversation with something as serious as an assassination plot, with 'Robocop' and my name being associated with it, that is where I draw the line."
