A vehicular accident in Valencia on Tuesday has claimed the life of a Valencia resident and has left a pensioner warded in hospital.According to police reports, at around 3.15 pm, Capildeo Allen, 52, of Johnson Street, Valencia, was driving his vehicle in an easterly direction along the Valencia Old Road, when, in the vicinity of the two-and-half-mile mark, he reportedly lost control of his vehicle.
Investigators said Allen attempted to swerve to avoid an oncoming vehicle which was travelling in the opposite direction.Police said Allen's vehicle ran off the road before flipping several times.Fire officers assigned to the Sangre Grande Fire Station were summoned to the scene and assisted in removing Allen's body from the vehicle with the use of hydraulic rescue tools.
Allen was pronounced dead on the scene by a District Medical Officer who ordered his body removed and a post-mortem conducted.Lewis Murphy, 63, a pensioner, of Baksh Trace, Valencia, who was a front seat passenger in Allen's vehicle, sustained serious injuries in the accident.Murphy was taken to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where, up to late yesterday, he remained warded in a stable condition after undergoing emergency surgery.
The scene was visited by ASP Neville Sankar. Acting Cpl Rajesh Deosaran of the Valencia Police Post is continuing investigations.
