Two Cunu­pia res­i­dents have been ar­rest­ed by po­lice mere hours af­ter they al­leged­ly robbed an off-du­ty po­lice­man. Around 8 am, the po­lice of­fi­cer board­ed a taxi from his home in San­gre Chiq­ui­to bound for San­gre Grande. On the way, a man in his 30s who was in the car, re­port­ed­ly robbed the pas­sen­gers of valu­ables. He then or­dered the dri­ver to turn in­to a lone­ly road, or­dered every­one out and sped off with the car. The po­lice­man re­port­ed the mat­ter to the San­gre Grande CID where he works.

Of­fi­cers of the CID and East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force found the ve­hi­cle parked out­side an ATM ma­chine in San­gre Grande where three men were at­tempt­ing to with­draw cash. The of­fi­cers led by ASP Neville Sankar held two of the sus­pects while the oth­er man es­caped. The sus­pects are ex­pect­ed to un­der­go sev­er­al iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rades lat­er to­day be­fore crim­i­nal charges are laid. They said the ar­rest of the third man is im­mi­nent. Sankar and Sgt Ken Lutch­man of the San­gre Grande CID are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
