Two Cunupia residents have been arrested by police mere hours after they allegedly robbed an off-duty policeman. Around 8 am, the police officer boarded a taxi from his home in Sangre Chiquito bound for Sangre Grande. On the way, a man in his 30s who was in the car, reportedly robbed the passengers of valuables. He then ordered the driver to turn into a lonely road, ordered everyone out and sped off with the car. The policeman reported the matter to the Sangre Grande CID where he works.
Officers of the CID and Eastern Division Task Force found the vehicle parked outside an ATM machine in Sangre Grande where three men were attempting to withdraw cash. The officers led by ASP Neville Sankar held two of the suspects while the other man escaped. The suspects are expected to undergo several identification parades later today before criminal charges are laid. They said the arrest of the third man is imminent. Sankar and Sgt Ken Lutchman of the Sangre Grande CID are continuing investigations.
