A San Fernando magistrate ordered a witness in the Daniel Guerra preliminary inquiry to sign a promissory bond to give evidence before the High Court.Mairoon Gangaram, Guerra's neighbour, was required to sign the document after giving evidence before deputy Chief Magistrate Rajendra Rambachan on Tuesday.Rambachan told her the document is a promise that if the matter goes to trial in the High Court, she will give evidence. Gangaram was reluctant, citing certain concerns.
"Ma'am I am ordering you to sign," Rambachan said,"You can tell them that Magistrate Rambachan ordered you to sign it.""Okay," replied Gangaram who signed the document and left.She was the first witness called on Tuesday as the matter against Cpl Darwin Ghouralal, 41, accused of murdering eight-year-old Guerra, continued.Gangaram, who had to be put out the court twice during her evidence for points of law to be argued by attorneys, was cross examined by defence attorney Sophia Chote. Also giving evidence was travel agent Chandra Maharaj.
The State is alleging that on a date unknown between February 17 and 21, Ghouralal murdered Guerra.Ghouralal was charged by Sgt Anderson Parriman. Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul, who led the State's case, asked for a summons for Tenille Pompey to appear in court on the next occasion.
