A fe­male po­lice cor­po­ral, re­lat­ed to at­tor­ney Kei­th Beck­les, died at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal af­ter be­ing struck by a car while she was on du­ty at the Cou­va In­ter­change con­struc­tion site.Po­lice said Cpl Ke­nia Ang­ie Beck­les-Gor­don, of Roys­to­nia, Cou­va, died at about 5 pm while un­der­go­ing treat­ment at hos­pi­tal.In­ves­ti­ga­tors have de­tained a 64-year-old dri­ver for ques­tion­ing.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said around 11 am, Beck­les-Gor­don was di­rect­ing traf­fic on the north-bound car­riage­way of the Solomon Ho­choy High­way when an on­com­ing dri­ver lost con­trol of his car and ploughed in­to her. The car al­so tore down an il­lu­mi­nat­ed ar­row sig­nal and sev­er­al road traf­fic warn­ing cones. The dri­ver es­caped with mi­nor in­juries. Beck­les-Gor­don suf­fered a bro­ken arm and in­ter­nal in­juries.

She was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where she was ad­mit­ted in crit­i­cal con­di­tion.Se­nior Supt Ed­ward Castil­lo and Supt John­ny Abra­ham vis­it­ed the scene.This is the sec­ond ac­ci­dent at the site in re­cent times. On De­cem­ber 6, an­oth­er po­lice of­fi­cer was hit by a car dri­ven by a work­er at the site.She was tak­en to the Cou­va Med­ical Cen­tre where she was treat­ed and dis­charged.
