De­pressed since the death of his adopt­ed moth­er two months ago, a 17-year-old stu­dent at­tempt­ed to end his life on Fri­day. The teenag­er is in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. The in­ci­dent took place short­ly af­ter 11 pm. The teenag­er of Dal­loo Road, Gas­par­il­lo was found slumped and froth­ing on the bath­room floor of his home. A bot­tle con­tain­ing a brown sub­stance was found next to him. Rel­a­tives told the po­lice that since the death of his adopt­ed moth­er he has been de­pressed, say­ing that he want­ed to die as well. PC Noy­an is in­ves­ti­gat­ing.

Mean­while an ex­er­cise by the South­ern Di­vi­sion on Fri­day re­sult­ed in the ar­rest of 20 peo­ple, while 50 oth­ers re­ceived tick­ets. Among those ar­rest­ed was a 49-year-old project man­ag­er and a 33-year-old labour­er, for dri­ving un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol. Po­lice seized 100 grammes of mar­i­jua­na and ar­rest­ed six peo­ple. Oth­ers were ar­rest­ed on out­stand­ing war­rants and var­i­ous of­fences. The ex­er­cise was spear­head­ed by Snr Supt De­o­dath Du­lalchan, Ag Supt May­nard and In­sp Lomie.
