Depressed teen attempts suicide
Depressed since the death of his adopted mother two months ago, a 17-year-old student attempted to end his life on Friday. The teenager is in a critical condition at the San Fernando General Hospital. The incident took place shortly after 11 pm. The teenager of Dalloo Road, Gasparillo was found slumped and frothing on the bathroom floor of his home. A bottle containing a brown substance was found next to him. Relatives told the police that since the death of his adopted mother he has been depressed, saying that he wanted to die as well. PC Noyan is investigating.
Meanwhile an exercise by the Southern Division on Friday resulted in the arrest of 20 people, while 50 others received tickets. Among those arrested was a 49-year-old project manager and a 33-year-old labourer, for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police seized 100 grammes of marijuana and arrested six people. Others were arrested on outstanding warrants and various offences. The exercise was spearheaded by Snr Supt Deodath Dulalchan, Ag Supt Maynard and Insp Lomie.
