Former public utilities minister Ganga Singh has been confirmed as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA). Ganga acted as CEO of WASA from July 2010 to September 30 2011. A release issued by WASA’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Ellen Lewis, yesterday confirmed Singh’s appointment, which took effect from October 1. Lewis said Singh’s confirmation came after he was recommended by WASA’s Human Resource Committee in September.

Lewis said the WASA Board observed and evaluated Singh’s performance as acting CEO for nine months prior to his appointment. She said based on the Board’s evaluation Singh was confirmed and will hold the position for three years. Lewis said Singh’s appointment was unanimous. In recent days Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley questioned the lengthy period of Singh’s acting appointment. Public Utilities Minister Emmanuel George was Permanent Secretary in the ministry when Singh served as minister in the Basdeo Panday Government.
