A senior prisons officer is expected to appear before a Tunapuna magistrate today for the theft of more than $22,000 in tyres and car parts. The 44-year-old Cunupia resident was arrested at his Monroe Road business place at around 9.30 pm on Tuesday by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force led by Sgt Roger Alexander and Cpl Sunil Bharath. During a search of the officer's property and vehicles, police reportedly discovered 11 truck tyres which were reported stolen from a Valsayn-based transport company.
The tyres were allegedly stolen from the company's Bamboo Settlement No 2 office on July 26. The prisons officer, who has 21 years' service, was last assigned to the Port-of-Spain State Prison on Frederick Street. He was handed over yesterday to investigators of the St Joseph Police Station who are probing the incident.
