Two rape accused granted $90,000 bail
Two men were yesterday granted $90,000 bail each after appearing in court on five separate rape charges, in San Juan and Morvant. Jovon Fraser, 19, of Bagatelle Road, San Juan, was not called upon to plead when he appeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor in the Port-of-Spain Seventh Court. Fraser, who is unemployed, is charged with the rape and buggery of a woman at a location in San Juan on December 6.
Meanwhile, Matthew Bacquan, of Cicada Street, Morvant, appeared in the same court, charged with raping three women, including a 15-year-old girl. Both men were ordered to report to the San Juan and Morvant police stations, respectively, during their court matters. It was alleged that the incidents occurred at separate locations between July and December. Both charges were laid by Cpl Davidson of the Barataria CID.
Fraser was represented by attorney Fareed Ali. Both men are expected to reappear in court on January 11, next year.
