Two police constables had to seek medical attention on Thursday night after being involved in a violent altercation with a man wanted on robbery charges. Reports indicate that at 10 pm, a man walked into the Chaguanas Police Station to report a robbery that had occurred minutes before on the Chaguanas Main Road. Investigators said that while lodging the report, the victim allegedly spotted his attacker walking near the station and alerted officers. WPC Adams and PC Mohammed of the Chaguanas Police Station responded and attempted to apprehend the suspect.
Police said that the suspect, believed to be a martial arts expert, retaliated and dealt the officers several blows before attempting to flee the scene. A group of officers attached to the station responded on hearing the commotion and were also reportedly met with violence. But, after several minutes of wrangling, managed to subdue the suspect. Adams and Mohammed were rushed to the Chaguanas Health Facility where they both received treatment for broken limbs suffered in the fracas. The suspect is expected appear on identification parades later today and will appear before a Chaguanas magistrate on Monday charged with several counts of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. Inspector Wayne Lawrence of the Chaguanas CID is continuing investigations.
