The Ro­tary Club of San Fer­nan­do is call­ing on the San Fer­nan­do City Cor­po­ra­tion to pro­vide a home for all Ro­tary Clubs in south Trinidad. Past pres­i­dent An­son Khan not­ed that the San Fer­nan­do club was cel­e­brat­ing its 50th an­niver­sary, but yet they have no place to call home. He was speak­ing at their an­niver­sary awards func­tion at Roy­al Ho­tel in San Fer­nan­do on Thurs­day night. Ask­ing the cor­po­ra­tion for its as­sis­tance in lo­cat­ing a home for Ro­tary Clubs, he said there was no place where clubs in south Trinidad could dis­play their para­pher­na­lia. In­di­cat­ing, how­ev­er, that they were not look­ing for hand­outs, he said if a space was iden­ti­fied they would work on de­vel­op­ing it.

Judy Ahamad, the club's first fe­male pres­i­dent, out­lined sev­er­al ac­tiv­i­ties the club en­gaged in, putting mem­bers on alert that the next five and a half months will be busy and ex­cit­ing. She said the club de­cid­ed to pay trib­ute to four San Fer­nan­di­ans who had made sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tions in var­i­ous fields. Re­ceiv­ing hon­orary plaques were vet­er­an mas­man Ivan Kalicha­ran, com­mu­ni­ty ac­tivist Sylvia Joachim, Dr Theo Poon King and promi­nent busi­ness­man Carl Mack. Coun­cil­lor Er­rol Sinanan al­so re­ceived a plaque on be­half of San Fer­nan­do May­or Mar­lene Coudray who was un­able to at­tend the func­tion. Sinanan said the coun­cil was will­ing to part­ner with them in the in­ter­est of the south­ern city.

He said they were work­ing on get­ting sev­er­al projects off the ground in­clud­ing the re­de­vel­op­ment of Har­ris Prom­e­nade. Promis­ing that the club would be fea­tured promi­nent­ly in the "new" prom­e­nade, he said, "It is time Ro­tary takes its right­ful place in San Fer­nan­do. Ro­tary of San Fer­nan­do will be etched in the por­trait of San Fer­nan­do."

Fea­ture speak­er Dis­trict Gov­er­nor Lara Quen­trall-Thomas con­grat­u­lat­ed the Club on its 50th an­niver­sary.
