A La Brea man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl more than two decades ago was freed yesterday. Alvin Seetaram, 38, of Vessigny Village, was found not guilty after a jury deliberated for less than two hours at the San Fernando Third Assizes. Seetaram went on trial a month ago before Justice Andre Mon Desir charged with two counts of having sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 14. At the time he was 16 years old.
The State alleged that the offences took place on two occasions in 1990. The State called three witnesses, including the victim who is now 32. Seetaram did not give evidence or call witnesses. Through his attorney, Jason Jackson, he denied that he raped the girl. He said the story was fabricated when the girl's parents found out that she was having a relationship with him in 1996.
