A central businessman and his wife are expected to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today charged with possession of a shotgun and a large cache of ammunition. The couple was arrested during an early morning raid on Monday at their home on Mt Plasir Road, Cunupia. The raid was conducted by officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force and Criminal Intelligence Unit, led by ASP Radcliff Boxhill and Sgt Cornelius Samuel. Police police said they recovered a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun with 51 cartridges.
The man and his 31-year-old wife were subsequently charged by Cpl Daniel of the task force. Meanwhile, a police roadblock in St Joseph yesterday resulted in the issuing of 131 fixed penalty traffic tickets. Police said motorists were given tickets for several offences, including driving without a seat belt and failing to comply with road signs. Yesterday's exercise was conducted by Inspector Baptiste and Sgt Vetus Hernandez of the St Joseph Police Station.
