The life and writings of former president Noor Hassanali will be housed in the library at his alma mater Naparima College in commemoration of the school's 118th anniversary. The Noor Hassanali Heritage Collection was launched on Monday during the school's Founder's Day celebration under the theme "Nurturing the Vision of Our Founding Fathers." Held in the school's auditorium/gymnasium, the function was attended by Hassanali's widow, Zalayhar Hassanali. Principal Michael Dowlath recalled that at the school's 100th anniversary celebrations in 1994, Hassanali delivered the feature address. He said the Hassanali Collection would be housed in the school's extended library.
Dowlath said RIK Book Store had agreed to supply the library with new furniture and to sponsor the section of the facility that would display the Noor Hassanali Heritage Collection. The project is expected to be completed by August 2012 in time for the new academic year. In the feature address at Monday's launch, retired Justice of Appeal Ralph Narine, 90, reflected on how the college was born and the life of his former schoolmate and colleague. "He was my playmate...He was my professional colleague," said Narine, adding that Hassanali became a student, teacher, sportsman, lawyer and judge. He said their inspiration came from Naparima College which had spawned sportsmen, politicians and professionals of every kind.
