Three residents of Rio Claro have been denied bail on charges of possession of arms and ammunition. Nazam Ali, his relative Scott Mariano-Orosco and neighbour Inshan Ali, all of Tabaquite Main Road, Rio Claro, appeared before Magistrate Anna Ryan in the Forth (B) Court on Monday. Nazam Ali and Mariano-Orosco were arrested at their home over the weekend by officers of the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau (OCNFB) while allegedly in possession of a loaded Smith and Wesson .38 revolved and six rounds of ammunition.
The same group of officers, while executing a search warrant, then arrested Inshan Ali at his home located mere metres from where Ali and Mariano-Orosco were arrested. It was alleged that Inshan was in possession of a Remmington 16 gauge shotgun and four 16-gauge cartridges at the time of his arrest. Both matters were adjourned to tomorrow and transferred to the Rio Claro Magistrates' Court.
