Sean Lopes, a fugitive wanted in the United States for attempted murder and kidnapping

 

Law enforcement authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Sean Lopes, a fugitive wanted in the United States for attempted murder and kidnapping. He is believed to be residing in Trinidad and Tobago. On June 25, 2004, in New York City, Lopes entered the residence of his former girlfriend. The  former girlfriend and Lopes were employed by the New York City public school system. When the former girlfriend returned home in the early morning hours of June 25, 2004, Lopes confronted her with a gun and a knife.  He held her hostage until police entered the apartment and arrested him. On September 16, 2004, Lopes was charged with attempted murder and kidnapping but was released on bail. He subsequently fled and remains a fugitive. 
 
On May 20, 2005, Lopes was tried, convicted and sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison. It is believed he travelled to Trinidad and Tobago, using his brother’s travel documents. Lopes has been classified as a New York Police Department “most wanted” fugitive. He is described as male, 5’8” tall, 140 lbs. (weight fluctuates), light-skinned, with brown hair and black eyes, and is usually clean shaven, but sometimes has facial hair.
Lopes has been known to speak with a Guyanese accent. His  date of birth is February 12, 1966 but he has also used July 6, 1970. He has used the following aliases: Sean H Lopes, Shane M Lopes, and Sean Hendrick Lopes. Lopes has ties to Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Canada, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic. A reward is available for information that leads to his capture. Anyone with information on Lopes’ whereabouts can contact crime stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
