Min­is­ter of For­eign Af­fairs and Com­mu­ni­ca­tions Dr Su­ru­jrat­tan Ram­bachan is at­tend­ing the sec­ond Cari­com-Chile Joint Com­mis­sion in San­ti­a­go. The meet­ing takes place to­day and to­mor­row. Cari­com and Chile for­malised re­la­tions in 1996 through the es­tab­lish­ment of the Stand­ing Joint Com­mis­sion on Con­sul­ta­tion, Co-op­er­a­tion and Co-or­di­na­tion and the sign­ing of an Agree­ment on Sci­en­tif­ic and Tech­ni­cal Co-op­er­a­tion.

Since then, Chile has pro­vid­ed the Caribbean with tech­ni­cal as­sis­tance in a va­ri­ety of ar­eas, ac­cord­ing to a re­lease is­sued by the min­istry yes­ter­day. To­day's meet­ing will dis­cuss is­sues such as re­new­able en­er­gy, agri­cul­ture and fish­eries, ed­u­ca­tion and train­ing and se­cu­ri­ty. Hous­ing and the En­vi­ron­ment Min­is­ter Dr Roodal Mooni­lal is act­ing for Ram­bachan dur­ing his ab­sence from T&T.
