Minister of Foreign Affairs and Communications Dr Surujrattan Rambachan is attending the second Caricom-Chile Joint Commission in Santiago. The meeting takes place today and tomorrow. Caricom and Chile formalised relations in 1996 through the establishment of the Standing Joint Commission on Consultation, Co-operation and Co-ordination and the signing of an Agreement on Scientific and Technical Co-operation.

Since then, Chile has provided the Caribbean with technical assistance in a variety of areas, according to a release issued by the ministry yesterday. Today’s meeting will discuss issues such as renewable energy, agriculture and fisheries, education and training and security. Housing and the Environment Minister Dr Roodal Moonilal is acting for Rambachan during his absence from T&T.
