While Port-of-Spain mayor Louis Lee Sing maintained his stance that glass bottles would not be allowed in the city he admitted that there was no law to support a ban on glass bottle products. He said, however, that he was confident that legislation to stop people from entering the city with glass bottles would be soon in coming. Lee Sing said this while responding to questions from media during a news conference yesterday at City Hall, Port-of-Spain. Last month, Lee Sing announced that glass bottles would not be allowed in the city on Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

The issue raised public concern and some question his authority to implement such a ban. Police Sergeant Wayne Mystar at a news conference earlier this week confirmed that there was no law against bringing glass bottles into the city.
Lee Sing confirmed that the issue was in the hands of the corporation’s legal team as they needed to ensure all was done in accordance with the law. “There is no law at present to ban glass bottles from the city,” said Lee Sing.
