COP councillor suffers stroke
There was no ambulance available to transport councillor Gobin Persad Sinanan to the hospital after he suffered a mild stroke at his Vistabella home on Friday morning. Over the past few weeks the ambulance service has come under harsh criticism for its perceived inefficient service. Sinanan, councillor of Marabella South/Vistabella, was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital by his wife and is said to be in a stable condition. The Congress of the People local government representative fainted while at his Vistabella home. His wife Seeruganie said around 11 am he went to the bathroom to get ready to go to Port-of-Spain.
“When I checked on him I saw that he fainted,” she said. However, when she called for an ambulance she was told that none was available. “They told me one was not available. I did not wait. I took him to the hospital myself,” she said. Thanking everyone for their support, she said, her husband is conscious and alert. “He knows where he is. He knows everything that’s happening.” She said the doctors told her he was doing “just fine”. He was visited by his fellow councillors of the San Fernando City Corporation at the hospital on Friday night. San Fernando mayor Marlene Coudray said she was unable to visit him because she came down with the virus.
