Ewatski: I would not do anything illegal

“I would not do anything illegal.” That was deputy Police Commissioner Jack Ewatski’s position yesterday when asked whether the type of aircraft he flew in with TTASC director Dan Condon last year was an American registered aircraft or Canadian. Ewatski said last week he went on two check flights with Condon last year to hone his (Ewatski’s) pilot skills. He said the flights had nothing to do with a police contract awarded to a company in which Condon was a director. Ewatsksi has said he holds a Canadian flying licence.

Ewatski’s statements came after PNM MP Donna Cox recently accused  Ewatski of “fraternising” with directors of the T&T Air Support Co Ltd (TTASC) which was contracted by the police for a $900,000 12-week pilot policing project. Questions have now arisen on whether as the holder of a Canadian flying licence, Ewatski could have done a check flight in an American registered aircraft. Ewatski said yesterday he could not recall if the aircraft was American registered and would have to check. He added, “But I flew with a licenced flight instructor licenced to the US....you’d have to check with him on the aircraft—I don’t do anything illegal.”
