A Gasparillo man is fighting for his life at hospital after he was shot on a gravel track, close to the Brian Lara Stadium in San Fernando. Up to late yesterday, doctors were still treating Stephon Mendoza, 39, a rigger, of 18 Cottage Road, Reform Road, Gasparillo, for gunshot wounds to the abdomen and leg. Investigators said around 7.20 am on Saturday, Mendoza was driving along the Bonne Aventure Road, Gasparillo, when he noticed a white station wagon driving close to him. Mendoza said he tried to shake off the vehicle by turning into off roads.

A masked man, who was driving the station wagon, reportedly alighted the vehicle and confronted Mendoza. A scuffle ensued during which the masked man pulled out a gun and shot Mendoza twice on the body. Cpl Ramdial of the Ste Madeleine Police Station is continuing investigations.
