Suruj links ‘attacks’ on Kamla to UNC elections
Foreign Affairs and Communications Minister Dr Surujrattan Rambachan says attacks on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar were expected in the run-up to next month’s internal United National Congress elections. He was commenting on a newspaper report (not the Guardian) yesterday in which her constituents were claiming she had neglected them. Rambachan said Persad-Bissessar had shown the country and the world that she could hold the People’s Partnership Government together, to the dismay of many. He said she had also shown that she could lead in a manner that had resulted in the party being stronger than it ever was in the past.
Rambachan said Persad-Bissessar had done a lot for her constituents, including ensuring that their roads were paved. He said many residents now have a water supply and electricity. He said there was a new fishing facility in Morne Diablo and the University of the West Indies campus was being constructed in Debe. Rambachan said the attacks would continue until the March 24 internal elections of the UNC were held.
