Local Government Minister Chandresh Sharma says T&T healthcare system was one of the best in the world. Sharma, who recently spent some days at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after injuries sustained in a vehicular accident, said there were very few countries in the world where such a service could be accessed. Sharma made the comment after visiting councillor for Marabella South Vistabella Gobin Persad “Errol” Sinanan who suffered a stroke at his home last Friday. Sharma said Sinanan was receiving the same treatment which former prime minister Patrick Manning received after suffering a stroke two weeks ago. Sharma said: “I want to impress upon the national community that Trinidad and Tobago offers the best healthcare in the world, at the public institutions. Very few countries in the world—and I have been to some of the developed cities—what they obtain in our public hospitals is far extraordinary.

“Our former prime minister Patrick Manning was here a few days ago and I myself obtained treatment when needed at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. We must really pay tribute to our doctors and our healthcare providers.” Also visiting Sinanan was San Fernando mayor Marlene Coudray and chief executive officer of the South West Regional Health Authority Anil Gosine. Coudray said Sinanan was recovering well and had been moved from the High Dependency Unit to Ward Seven of the hospital.
On Friday Sinanan was at his home when he complained of numbness on his side.
