Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment Min­is­ter Chan­dresh Shar­ma says T&T health­care sys­tem was one of the best in the world. Shar­ma, who re­cent­ly spent some days at the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal af­ter in­juries sus­tained in a ve­hic­u­lar ac­ci­dent, said there were very few coun­tries in the world where such a ser­vice could be ac­cessed. Shar­ma made the com­ment af­ter vis­it­ing coun­cil­lor for Mara­bel­la South Vista­bel­la Gob­in Per­sad "Er­rol" Sinanan who suf­fered a stroke at his home last Fri­day. Shar­ma said Sinanan was re­ceiv­ing the same treat­ment which for­mer prime min­is­ter Patrick Man­ning re­ceived af­ter suf­fer­ing a stroke two weeks ago. Shar­ma said: "I want to im­press up­on the na­tion­al com­mu­ni­ty that Trinidad and To­ba­go of­fers the best health­care in the world, at the pub­lic in­sti­tu­tions. Very few coun­tries in the world-and I have been to some of the de­vel­oped cities-what they ob­tain in our pub­lic hos­pi­tals is far ex­tra­or­di­nary.

"Our for­mer prime min­is­ter Patrick Man­ning was here a few days ago and I my­self ob­tained treat­ment when need­ed at the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. We must re­al­ly pay trib­ute to our doc­tors and our health­care providers." Al­so vis­it­ing Sinanan was San Fer­nan­do may­or Mar­lene Coudray and chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer of the South West Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty Anil Go­sine. Coudray said Sinanan was re­cov­er­ing well and had been moved from the High De­pen­den­cy Unit to Ward Sev­en of the hos­pi­tal.

On Fri­day Sinanan was at his home when he com­plained of numb­ness on his side.
