The Government has notified the T&T Embassy in Washington to provide all the necessary support that may be needed by former prime minister Patrick Manning who is now at a hospital in that city for further medical  treatment. Manning was flown to the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington on Tuesday for further rehabilitation treatment, after his recovery from a recent stroke. His wife Hazel accompanied him. After yesterday’s UNDP function at the National Academy for the Performing Arts, Information Minister Suruj Rambachan said the Government’s Washington embassy had been notified that the former PM would be in that city and to provide any help that he may need in his recuperation.

“We asked them to give all the support Mr Manning and his family need,” he said. “As the Prime Minister has said, this Government will do everything to ensure Mr Manning gets the best treatment...we’ll be guided by what his medical doctors say.” The Government has committed than more US$50,0000 — up to almost US$90,000 — to assist Manning’s medical expenses.
