The Water and Sewerage Authority’s (WASA) aggressive leak repair programme is on track, says the utility’s general manager of corporate communications, Ellen Lewis.  Speaking with reporters in San Fernando after the start of WASA’s disconnection drive on Wednesday, Lewis said: “We were mandated by the Government when they came into office to embark on an aggressive leak repair programme and we have started.”

She said the programme was “continuing apace.” “We have not had any challenges in the context of getting the programmes rolled out. We are proceeding accordingly to repair all outstanding leaks on the lines, as well, we have systems to replace all aged and leaky mains over the next two years,” Lewis added.  WASA deputy general manager–operations, Steve Joseph, said in addition to the disconnection drive the utility was conducting line replacement which involved replacement of old connections.
