Gunmen dressed in camouflage clothing unleashed a barrage of bullets at a chicken farmer, killing him as he attempted to flee into bushes in Moruga. After the shooting, Randy de Couteau, of St Mary's Village, Moruga, was found lying dead in bushes about 150 feet from his home. De Couteau, a father of three, had been shot more than seven times in the head, face, chest and back. De Couteau's uncle, Dave, said his nephew operated a chicken farm at Saunders Trace and he did not know why he was killed.
The incident occurred at around 7.35 pm on Thursday, after a black Almera pulled up in the yard of de Couteau's home. The occupants of the vehicle, dressed in camouflage clothing with black masks over their faces, came out and fired several shots. Dave de Couteau said: "I started to run. Randy also ran and they followed him and began shooting him." After killing Randy, the gunmen fired a barrage of bullets, hitting three nearby houses before they fled the scene in the waiting car.
