An instructor assigned to the Police Training Academy is expected to be interrogated by senior investigators in connection with the alleged rape of a trainee at the Academy’s St James compound on Saturday morning. The investigation into the incident was launched on Saturday after the 26-year-old victim made a report at the St Clair Police Station. Senior police sources revealed that the trainee claimed to have awoken with the instructor on top of her, after which an alarm was raised prompting the response of other senior officers on duty. The incident allegedly occurred after a police calypso competition, which was held at the facility the night before.

The trainee was taken to the St James Heath Facility where she received treatment and a medical was obtained confirming the sexual assault. After learning of the report and imminent investigation, the instructor reportedly tendered his resignation. ASP Ajith Persad and Inspector Harvey Jawahir, both of the Port-of-Spain CID have been assigned to investigate the incident.
