Mother, daughter die in accident
Traffic piled up, on both the north- and southbound lanes of the Solomon Hochoy Highway after a car accident claimed the lives of a 47-year-old woman and her daughter yesterday. Fire officers had to utilise the jaws of life to free the mangled bodies of Radha Ramnath and 17-year-old Vanita out of their Nissan Sunny. Driver of the car Giram Ramnath, husband and father of the victims, was taken to San Fernando General Hospital where he was warded in critical condition.
The family was proceeding south along the highway on route to their Tarodale, Tarouba, home when a car landed on their vehicle. Police said that around 6 pm, the driver of a Nissan Cifero was proceeding along the northbound lane of the highway in the vicinity of the Macaulay Overpass when he came into contact with another vehicle. The Cifero then spun out and control, flipped several times before smashing onto the top of Ramnath’s vehicle. Both women were killed instantly.
Their bloodied corpses remained on the roadway for hours before they were removed. The driver of Nissan Cifero was also taken to hospital were he was reported to be in serious condition. Officers led by ASP Zamsheed Mohammed visited the scene.
