Professor Harrinath D Maharajh

Professor Harrinath D Maharajh died on Sunday night at the Eic Williams Medical Sciences Complex after suffering for the last two years with a lung-related ailment. Maharajh, a resident of Edinburgh Gardens, Chaguanas, was best described as one of the region’s top psychiatrists. His wife, Indra Maharajh, said Dr Maharajh was in need of a lung transplant and died with pulmonary fibrosis.

His death was a great loss, according to Chaguanas mayor Orlando Nagessar. Nagessar said he was friends with Maharajh who he described as having a brilliant medical mind. Nagessar said Maharajh gave free service to the community and would at many times volunteer his services to clinics in the area. Maharajh was the first in his family to become a doctor and the first to twin his profession with a law degree. He was also the first among his relatives to head the Medical Association.
