Coast Guard officers have intensified searches for two fishermen who disappeared during expeditions in Macqueripe and Tobago, last week. The first man, Emmanuel Bliss was reported missing by relatives after going fishing in Speyside, Tobago, last Wednesday. Last Friday, Curtis Sydney was similarly reported missing after he told relatives he was going fishing at Macqueripe Beach, Chaguaramas.
When contacted yesterday for comment, Coast Guard public relations officer, Lieutenant Kirk Jean-Baptiste, said that his organisation was working with officers of the Air Guard to locate both men. Jean-Baptiste said that since the reports were made several unsuccessful searches were conducted in the area of the men's reported disappearance. Jean-Baptiste noted that the Coast Guard will continue searching until the men were found. Meanwhile, Coast Guard officers were called in yesterday to aid the crew of a party vessel which stalled off the coast of Port-of-Spain.
According to reports the crew aboard Coral Vision, contacted the Coast Guard at around 10 am after experiencing difficulties with the power aboard the vessel. Officers from the Coast Guard's Staubles Bay Base responded and within minutes assisted crew members in restarting the vessel, which then returned to the Port of Port-of-Spain. The vessel is owned and operated by a popular soca artiste.
