Carnival money ready by March 3

J’Ouvert would not be complete without a ‘lil’ picong.

 

The Chaguanas Carnival Committee will pay $1million prize monies come March 3. The announcement was made yesterday by Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner speaking with reporters at J’Ouvert celebrations in his borough.
Warner took in the early morning activity on the Chaguanas Main Road. Acting Chaguanas Mayor Gopaul Boodhan who enjoyed himself with the J’Ouvert band Junabo, said security for the season was a major concern.
 
In Couva, Ramchand Rajbal, Chairman of the Couva Carnival Committee, is happy that celebrations are proceeding without untoward incident. Rajbal said the Couva Committee is also expected to pay out prizes within the month. However, they are appealing for corporate assistance for other events. J’Ouvert in central Trinidad got going after 6 am in Chaguanas and Couva. There was heavy security at both venues with soldiers and police  watching over the Chaguanas Main Road and a heavy police presence.
