A Moruga teenager was warded at the San Fernando General Hospital after he was stabbed in the neck during J’Ouvert celebrations. Just before 9 am, Renaldo Frazer, 15, was seen lying on the side of the road near the police station on Harris Promenade by Don Angelo Manaura, 29. Manaura, of South Oropouche, later told the T&T Guardian he was very disappointed at the police response to Frazer’s plight. He said two police officers came to the scene. One left, saying he was going to get a vehicle while the other one just looked on. “The officer then said to carry him to the hospital. The officers did not even try to help us lift him to take him to the hospital. They did not even ask a question,” Manaura said.

When contacted the police said they were aware of the stabbing incident but they did not have a report. Apart from that incident, the celebrations were said to be free of serious crimes. “There were few small fights which were dealt with,” a senior officer said. Snr Supt Deodath Dulalchan of the Central Division said J’Ouvert celebrations in Chaguanas were incident free. “We are very thankful to the masqueraders and the onlookers. We will like to thank them for their support and urge them to continue giving us their supportduring tonight’s and tomorrow celebrations,” he said.
