Doctors battled to save the life of a four-year-old child after the car in which she was travelling collided with another vehicle in Moruga on Carnival Monday. Up to late yesterday, Ashley Arjoon, of St Mary’s Village, Moruga, remained warded in a critical but stable condition at San Fernando General Hospital. Investigators said around 3.30 pm, Arjoon was sitting on the left passenger seat of a car driven by 75-year-old Shem Hamilton when another vehicle driven by Darius Johnson, crashed into the back of their car.

Police said Johnson, a security officer, was driving his brown Mazda B15, north along the Moruga Main Road behind Hamilton’s car, when Johnson attempted to turn into a yard on the western side of the road. Police said Johnson pulled to the left and then to the right and collided with the front of the pensioner’s car. Both vehicles were damaged, but Hamilton and Johnson escaped unhurt. The child  was taken to hospital where she underwent emergency treatment. She remains warded at the hospital. PC Villafana is continuing investigations.
