Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a homeless man whose body was found in the St Joseph River yesterday morning. Reports said around 7 am officers of the St Joseph CID received an anonymous call that a man was floating in the river in Bamboo Settlement Number 3, Valsayn. On responding the officers discovered the body of the 45- year-old man, lying face down. Police said the man, who was later identified as Desmond Boyer, was found naked and had no marks of violence about the body.
Residents claimed Boyer had been living under a bridge in the area for almost two years. He also was described as being a friendly man who did odd jobs for residents. Boyer's body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, where a post-mortem was expected to be conducted later today. Although his body bore no visible marks of violence, investigators said they were not ruling out foul play until they received results of the post mortem. Sgt Vetus Hernandez and PC Antoine, of the St Joseph CID, are continuing investigations. (DA)
