Police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who allegedly set ablaze a 27-year-old mother of two, who was up to yesterday fighting for her life at the San Fernando General Hospital. Investigators said Andrea Badree of Badree Street, Dumfries Road, Hermitage Village, remained in a critical condition after she suffered 40 per cent first degree burns on her upper body.
Police said around 12.40 pm, Badree was at home with a male relative when the two became engaged in a heated debate. It is alleged that the man became so enraged that he picked up a container of gasoline, doused the woman and set her body on fire.
The woman fell to the ground and the fire was eventually extinguished. She was rushed to the hospital via the Emergency Health Services where she immediately underwent treatment at the Burn Unit. A party of officers led by ASP Ramlal, Inspector Ali, Cpl Ramlogan, PC Noyan along with Crime Scene Unit and Police Photographers visited the scene.
According to reports, the suspect who is said to be in his early 30's escaped the scene in a white pick-up before police arrived. Police combed the area but were unsuccessful in capturing the suspect. Cpl Ramlogan is spearheading investigation.
