Po­lice have launched a man­hunt for a sus­pect who al­leged­ly set ablaze a 27-year-old moth­er of two, who was up to yes­ter­day fight­ing for her life at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. In­ves­ti­ga­tors said An­drea Badree of Badree Street, Dum­fries Road, Her­mitage Vil­lage, re­mained in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion af­ter she suf­fered 40 per cent first de­gree burns on her up­per body.

Po­lice said around 12.40 pm, Badree was at home with a male rel­a­tive when the two be­came en­gaged in a heat­ed de­bate. It is al­leged that the man be­came so en­raged that he picked up a con­tain­er of gaso­line, doused the woman and set her body on fire.

The woman fell to the ground and the fire was even­tu­al­ly ex­tin­guished. She was rushed to the hos­pi­tal via the Emer­gency Health Ser­vices where she im­me­di­ate­ly un­der­went treat­ment at the Burn Unit. A par­ty of of­fi­cers led by ASP Ram­lal, In­spec­tor Ali, Cpl Ram­lo­gan, PC Noy­an along with Crime Scene Unit and Po­lice Pho­tog­ra­phers vis­it­ed the scene.

Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, the sus­pect who is said to be in his ear­ly 30's es­caped the scene in a white pick-up be­fore po­lice ar­rived. Po­lice combed the area but were un­suc­cess­ful in cap­tur­ing the sus­pect. Cpl Ram­lo­gan is spear­head­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
