Police are investigating the murder of a Barataria woman whose partially nude and mangled corpse was found on Manzanilla Beach yesterday morning. Up to late yesterday, no arrests had been made in the killing of 41-year-old Amoy Lewis, of Ninth Avenue, Barataria. She was chopped and bludgeoned to death. At around 6 am yesterday, a villager travelling along the Toco/Manzanilla Road discovered Lewis' body clad only in a panty, bra and a pair of sneakers. Officers from the Manzanilla Police Post, including Supt Hendron Moses, ASP Neville Sankar and Sgt Alfred, visited the scene along with the district medical officer for the area.
The body was identified by Lewis' sister Maureen at the Forensic Science Centre. An autopsy performed by Dr Valerie Alexandrov revealed that Lewis died as a result of blunt trauma to the head, as well as shock and haemorrhaging consistent with multiple chop wounds. Sgt Alfred is continuing investigations. Anyone with information is asked to call 668-2062. Meanwhile, police in Port-of-Spain are probing the killing of 50-year-old shop owner Cedric "Django" John, of Plaissance Terrace, Laventille, who was shot on Independence Square, Port-of-Spain, Wednesday afternoon. A report said two armed walked up to John and shot him.
