As the campaign for the UNC's internal election heats up, candidates vying for the post of the party's chairman started hitting the ground to lobby support. Jack Warner, the Chaguanas West MP and incumbent chairman, was planning a strategy meeting with his campaign team yesterday when he took time off to speak with reporters. Warner said he does not plan to engage in any mudslinging and was not afraid to go up against any of the candidates seeking the post of chairman: "I have no intention to dignify anybody's campaign no matter how inferior it is."
Warner said he has planned a series of meetings for this week to culminate with a motorcade on Friday that starts at the Caroni Bird Sanctuary site. Warner said: "The UNC people on the ground have never left me, they have never waivered. I am getting tremendous calls from people all over willing to help in the campaign."
Ashvani Mahabir, who is also going up for the post of chairman, walked through the streets of Chaguanas yesterday morning in a bid to lobby support. Mahabir said he planned a marketing strategy that involved pushing himself on social network sites. Mahabir said he was receiving support from the youths. However, he said he may be the victim of mudslinging from one of his fellow candidates.
