A Petrotrin rigger was fatally shot during a robbery in Point Fortin yesterday morning. Curtis Burroughs, father of two, was in a card game under a carat shed near his Teschier Village home with a group of other men. At around 12.30 a.m. a gold-coloured car pulled up and two men, one armed with a shotgun, got out and held up the men.
The card players were made to lie on the ground as the robbers relieved them of their valuables. Burroughs' sister Anastasia said eyewitnesses told her he appeared to be in shock: "Like he knew them from seeing them in the area. They took his ring and bands. Like they told him to take off his chain, but he just sat there watching them in amazement.
"One of them say, 'Yuh sticking to take off that chain,' and hit him a gun butt, and the other one shoot him in his neck." The men took a chain, worth over $10,000, off Burroughs' neck and fled the scene. Burroughs was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital where he died while being treated. Point Fortin police are investigating.
