The Daren Ganga Foundation (DGF) will host its third annual Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Millennium Lakes Golf Course, Trincity. Conceptualised in 2010 by the executive of the foundation, the tournament will be a fun and interactive means of raising funds for the two major projects of the DGF: the annual summer camp and the DGF scholarship programme.
In 2009, the foundation was launched at the Queen's Park Oval by Ganga. The first camp featured top class coaches and was well supported by several companies in recognition of Ganga's career as a cricketer and his exemplary character. While the summer camp remains an important activity of the DGF, its major project is the scholarship programme. Annually, the foundation awards scholarships to girls and boys between the ages of 9-13 who maintain good academic records and demonstrate a definite talent in an extracurricular activity.
These laudable and impactive programmes are costly. While there are several loyal sponsors and supporters of the foundation, the executive of DGF continues to demonstrate keen initiative in raising funds for their programmes through endeavours such as this.
Ganga said it was amazing how the support has grown. "Now I see why they say golf is an addiction-it's great to see the players genuinely enjoy themselves even though they are very competitive." While many golfers and aspiring golfers have already registered for the event, there is room for many more who are willing to spend a fun day playing golf with local celebrities.
