A police exercise was temporarily abandoned yesterday when Highway Patrol officers were called to assist a shooting victim at La Romaine. Up to late yesterday, details of the shooting were sketchy and identity of the victim had not been released. The incident occurred shortly after 10.30 am. Highway Patrol officers led by Sgt Knotts and including Cpl Sooknanan and Cpl Cole were doing routine checks along the South Trunk Road close to Paria Suites Hotel when a white B-14 pulled up.
A man was lying semi-conscious in the back of the car, bleeding from a wound to the chest. Officers called for a police car to escort the bleeding man to hospital. Senior officers later assigned other police officers to continue the exercise. A total of 22 tickets were issued to motorists for driving without seat belts, illegal towing, using mobile phones while driving and exceeding the speed limit.
