A po­lice ex­er­cise was tem­porar­i­ly aban­doned yes­ter­day when High­way Pa­trol of­fi­cers were called to as­sist a shoot­ing vic­tim at La Ro­maine. Up to late yes­ter­day, de­tails of the shoot­ing were sketchy and iden­ti­ty of the vic­tim had not been re­leased. The in­ci­dent oc­curred short­ly af­ter 10.30 am. High­way Pa­trol of­fi­cers led by Sgt Knotts and in­clud­ing Cpl Sook­nanan and Cpl Cole were do­ing rou­tine checks along the South Trunk Road close to Paria Suites Ho­tel when a white B-14 pulled up.

A man was ly­ing se­mi-con­scious in the back of the car, bleed­ing from a wound to the chest. Of­fi­cers called for a po­lice car to es­cort the bleed­ing man to hos­pi­tal. Se­nior of­fi­cers lat­er as­signed oth­er po­lice of­fi­cers to con­tin­ue the ex­er­cise. A to­tal of 22 tick­ets were is­sued to mo­torists for dri­ving with­out seat belts, il­le­gal tow­ing, us­ing mo­bile phones while dri­ving and ex­ceed­ing the speed lim­it.
