Fixin' T&T President Kirk Waithe has credited journalist Lasana Liburd with drawing the group's attention to graphic content shown on the "Crime Watch" television show. In a media release yesterday, Waithe said Liburd contacted the activist group after viewing the image of a "bleeding corpse" while shopping at a supermarket with his girlfriend and young daughter.
On the internet site www.wired868.com, Liburd tells of his 17-month-old daughter seeing a dead body for the first time on television sets facing customers near the cashiers at the supermarket. Hearing "a loud wail," Liburd said, "they looked up in alarm, just in time to see a body bag unzipped to reveal the blood-splattered face of a young man as a female voice on the set released an unforgettable scream.
"So whom do I credit with introducing my daughter to the horror of murder?" Liburd asked. He listed the supermarket, television host Ian Alleyne and media managers at TV6 as those responsible.
